Thursday Night Football Live Tonight

This season’s Thursday Night Football slate has produced a couple of surprisingly high-scoring thrillers already this season. No one saw the Rams and 49ers combining for 80 points in September, and the Raiders needed all 60 minutes and a couple of untimed downs to beat the Chiefs 31–30 last week. But if this week’s game in Baltimore produces anything close to those kinds of fireworks, we’ll be stunned.

Thursday Night Football Live

Miami brings with it the NFL’s worst offense (261.8 ypg), and only Cleveland has more trouble scoring than the Dolphins (15.3 ppg). The Ravens haven’t been much better, ranking 31st in total offense (277.6 ypg) and 23rd in scoring (18.6 ppg). The overall results, however, have been quite different, as the Dolphins have won three in a row, while the Ravens have lost four of five. Baltimore also is banged up, with 14 players listed as questionable on the short week, including star defenders Terrell Suggs and Eric Weddle.

Thursday Night Football schedule

Week 8: Dolphins at Ravens, Oct. 26 at 8:25 p.m. ET on CBS and NFLN
Week 9: Bills at Jets, Nov. 2 at 8:25 p.m. ET on NFL Network
Week 10: Seahawks at Cardinals, Nov. 9 at 8:25 p.m. ET on NBC and NFLN
Week 11: Titans at Steelers, Nov. 16 at 8:25 p.m. ET on NBC and NFLN
Week 12: Giants at Redskins, Nov. 23 at 8:30 p.m. ET on NBC
Week 13: Redskins at Cowboys, Nov. 30 at 8:25 p.m. ET on NBC and NFLN
Week 14: Saints at Falcons, Dec. 7 at 8:25 p.m. ET on NBC and NFLN
Week 15: Broncos at Colts, Dec. 14 at 8:25 p.m. ET on NBC and NFLN

While it may not be a shootout, both teams should be motivated. Baltimore needs to win to keep the Steelers from running away with the AFC North, while Miami wants to keep pace with New England and Buffalo in a shockingly crowded AFC East race.

Three Things to Watch

World Series 2017

World Series 2017  After taking Game 1 at home behind a dominant effort from Clayton Kershaw, the Los Angeles Dodgers are looking to ride the resurgent Rich Hill to a 2-0 series lead. That will be no easy task, though, as the Houston Astros will be pitching Justin Verlander tonight, who has been utterly dominant since coming over from the Detroit Tigers in a midseason trade, and especially this postseason, where his ERA has been less than 1.

Astros vs. Dodgers World Series Game 2: Score, live updates.

Verlander, the 2017 ALCS MVP, held the Yankees to one earned run over 16 innings to record one of the finest single-series pitching performances ever. However, Verlander needs to shake off his career 7.20 ERA in three World Series starts with the Detroit Tigers.

On the mound for the Dodgers will be 37-year-old Rich Hill. The veteran lefty pitcher makes his first World Series start after pitching in independent league baseball as recently as 2015. While Hill didn’t exceed five innings in either of his first two postseason starts, he allowed only three runs on six hits combined in those outings.

If the Astros want to have a real shot at winning this series, they have to win at least one game on the road, so look for Houston to give it all they’ve got tonight to steal a win before they head back home to Texas.

Astros vs Dodgers The Fall Classic finally starts Tuesday as the Houston Astros visit the Los Angeles Dodgers for Game 1 of the World Series. Dallas Kuechel will be facing off against Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw, who will be looking to continue a strong postseason run. Both teams have had very different routes to get to this point. Where the Dodgers have cruised thus far, sweeping the Diamondbacks and needing only five games to dispatch the Cubs, the Astros hit speed bumps against the Yankees. After going up 2-0, they dropped three straight at Yankee Stadium before winning the last two games of the series.

Jose Altuve will try to help the Astros overcome their woes batting on the road. The good news is that the Astros won’t be playing in Yankee Stadium, which was hell for visiting teams all offseason. The bad news is that the Dodgers’ confines aren’t much friendlier. With Kershaw pitching in his first World Series game and the Dodgers appearing in their first Fall Classic since 1988, Dodger Stadium will be rocking. This game is huge for the Astros — their ace Justin Verlander will be pitching in Game 2 — so a good outing from Kuechel will be essential to normalizing the rest disparity between these two teams.
